NEISD’s New Musical Brings the ‘Creepy and Kooky’ Addams Family to the Stage

The North East School of the Arts, a performing arts high school in San Antonio, is gearing up to showcase The Addams Family Musical just in time for the spooky season of Halloween. The school, renowned for its intensive musical theater pre-professional program, will present the musical on October 27-29 and November 3-5.

The Addams Family Musical tells the fresh and captivating story of Uncle Fester seeking the assistance of the family’s ancestors. The plot thickens when Wednesday, a member of the family, decides to introduce her new boyfriend and his “normal” parents to her eccentric relatives. The situation takes a hilarious turn when a massive storm traps both families inside the mansion for the night.

Taking on the role of Gomez, the family’s patriarch, is senior Briggs Blume. Blume’s portrayal of Gomez originated from the iconic performance by Nathan Lane during the musical’s first Broadway run in 2010. Blume expresses his enthusiasm for the show, praising its beautifully-written music composed by Andrew Lipa. He also highlights the collaborative effort among his classmates, who are majoring in technical theater, musical theater, and dance.

Senior Catherine Brown, a technical theater major, serves as the stage manager for The Addams Family Musical. Brown and her crew have been diligently working to ensure that everything runs smoothly backstage. From managing transitions to lights and sounds, Brown takes charge and ensures a seamless production. Despite the tight timeline, with only two weeks to prepare the set, Brown is proud of the team’s accomplishments.
