NEAR Foundation and NYU SPS Collaborate on Web3 and the Sports Industry

The NEAR Foundation and the New York University School of Professional Studies (NYU SPS) Preston Robert Tisch Global Sports Institute today announced a collaboration to launch an educational workshop on the intersection of web3 and blockchain technology and the sports industry.

The NEAR Foundation, a Swiss non-profit organization responsible for supporting and promoting the NEAR protocol and ecosystem, is working with NYU SPS to provide a comprehensive course of web3 workshops. Open to NYU SPS students, alumni, faculty, and industry partners, the three-day non-technical course will take place on February 10, 17, and 24 and will cover an overview of blockchain and digital assets and their growing use in sports, as well as hands-on experience with technologies.

The NEAR Foundation will provide the content and delivery of the program, continuing the nonprofit’s efforts to raise awareness of blockchain applications, specifically the NEAR ecosystem. The face-to-face seminar in New York will be led by michael kelly, co-founder and CPO of Open Forest Protocol, who will build on his professional experience as the founder of the NEAR ecosystem.

“We’re excited to partner with NYU SPS Tisch Institute to create a new route for business, sports and education to join the world of web3,” he said. Marieke Flaman, CEO of the NEAR Foundation. “Through our experience, NYU SPS will offer students, educators and commercial partners a comprehensive understanding of the NEAR protocol and its many use cases in the sports industry.”

“Web3 and blockchain technologies will play a big role not only in the sports industry, but in all industries that touch our lives,” he said. NYU SPS Dean Angie Kamath. “As the premier institution for applied, action-oriented learning and professional education, NYU SPS has a responsibility to prepare our students and faculty for success in every industry. Our partnership with the NEAR Foundation will provide our NYU SPS community with access to a wealth of knowledge and experience in these growing areas of innovation.”

The NEAR Foundation is a Swiss non-profit organization that supports the development of the NEAR protocol, a high performance carbon neutral blockchain and dApp development platform. NEAR Protocol is at the forefront of blockchain adoption in the sports industry, having achieved success through an exciting partnership with SailGP. The flagship achievement of this groundbreaking partnership is the launch of a fan-owned SailGP team built on the NEAR protocol using a modified DAO. SailGP continues to innovate using the NEAR protocol, offering exclusive SailGP NFTs directly to fans, and creating new ways for fans to interact with the SailGP community.

Flaman added: “The NEAR Foundation will leverage and share our experiences with blockchain innovation in sports, such as our partnership with SailGP, with workshop participants.”

“Our students, educators and industry partners are eager to learn how blockchain and web3 can be integrated with sports and other industries to create real value while also developing the skills and knowledge to build future applications.” said Jarrod Barnes, clinical assistant professor at the SPS Tisch Institute at New York University, who was instrumental in guiding this collaboration with NEAR and in establishing the workshop program. “Sponsored by NYU’s SPS Tisch Global Sports Institute and the NEAR Foundation, this seminar will provide participants with hands-on experience and hands-on knowledge of web3 technology to help them improve their careers and help us grow the next generation of industry leaders and innovators. “.

In addition to the workshop, NYU SPS will partner with NEAR to introduce an NFT rewards app for NYU SPS students later this year. The decentralized application using the NEAR dApp platform will be built on the NEAR protocol and create a student-owned marketplace for student participation. The NEAR Foundation will support the NYU SPS with vision, requirements planning, and dApp development planning. The school will also receive support in determining the technical approach to development, choosing a development partner, and interacting with the development team. The NFT Reward App is an innovative approach to student rewards, demonstrating NYU SPS’s commitment to improving the student experience through innovation.
