NASA and SpaceX count down to Crew-6 launch from Florida’s Space Coast

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida. — The launch of the NASA and SpaceX Crew-6 mission to the International Space Station is scheduled for launch no earlier than 1:45 am on Monday.

A Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Dragon Endeavor spacecraft lifts off from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center.

The flight will be SpaceX’s sixth crewed rotation mission to the space station and the seventh crewed Dragon flight under NASA’s commercial program.

The NASA SpaceX Crew-6 mission will take NASA astronauts Stephen Bowen and Warren Hoburgh, as well as United Arab Emirates astronaut Sultan Alneyadi and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev, to the International Space Station, where they will spend up to six months before returning home.

SpaceX tweeted that “all systems and weather are favorable for launch” on Sunday morning.

Forecasters from the 45th Weather Squadron forecast a 95 percent chance of favorable weather conditions for the launch, according to NASA.

Longtime residents of Brevard County said the launches were not only good for business, but just plain fun to watch.

Bobby Russo grew up in Cacao and said watching our Space Coast launches never gets old.

“I’ve seen these launches since I was 5 years old when I was a kid. I saw the space shuttle, the Apollo program…” Russo said. “My father retired from the space industry and just seeing the jobs it brings and the income in this area is just good for the country.”

There have been nine SpaceX launches from Florida this year. In 2022, Elon Musk tweeted that he plans to fly up to 100 launches this year, including the SpaceX Crew-6 mission, scheduled to launch from Kennedy Space Center early Monday morning.

News 6 will broadcast the launch live, starting with NASA coverage at 10:15 pm.
