Mystery in the Bronx: cops investigate if shootout preceded 26-year-old’s shooting

Police sources said on Tuesday that a 26-year-old man shot dead in the passenger seat of a car in the Bronx may have shot his killer before he was hit by a bullet.

The victim was already dead when police found him in a Honda CRV on Union Avenue near 168 E Street in Morrisania around 2:20 p.m. Monday, police said.

He was wounded in the stomach.

Several blocks away, police found an abandoned Ford Fusion with Florida license plates, according to police sources.

It was shot at and damaged by bullets, and police are investigating whether Honda and Ford fired bullets back and forth, they added.

The shooter attacked the man about half a mile away, on 163rd E. Street, near Rev. James Police Avenue in Longwood, police and sources said.

The police were still working on his identification on Tuesday afternoon.

There were no arrests.
