Murder charges dropped against three suspects in the shooting of a 14-year-old in South Dallas.

Charges were dropped against three suspects in the September 2022 murder of 14-year-old Manuel Edwards.

“It was like my heart, my heart sank. My heart sank because I thought I was going to get justice for my son.” – Cynthia Edwards

Manuel was shot dead in a vacant lot in South Dallas along El Lipscomb Way.

“They kept destroying the monument to my child and I had to fix it,” Edwards said.

His mother continues to maintain the memorial where the teenager’s body was found.

Now the capital murder charges against Treveillon Harris, Alonzo Simpson and Gregory Ellison are dropped.

The Dallas Police said in a statement: “The charges were dropped at the request of the District Attorney’s Office due to insufficient evidence to bring charges. The investigation is ongoing.”

Some of the questions in this case are related to anonymous advice.

“If these people are going to remain anonymous, you will have difficulty with this in court,” said Russell Wilson, a defense attorney who was not involved in the case. “Remember, we are here in Dallas County and personality has been one of the causes of wrongful convictions year after year. So you want to be right about the person and the role that this or that particular person has or has not played. “

“I would just read it like a district attorney saying they need an investigation or more information,” he continued. “Especially in a capital murder case. You must remember: first, the seriousness of the charge. You’re talking about automatic life imprisonment, and so the sooner you can iron out questions about evidence or the sufficiency of evidence, the better. with you as an accuser.”

Meanwhile, Manuel’s mother is grieving.

“I need someone to come up and talk because I want justice for my child. I can’t keep going through this. I can’t keep going through this. I hurt every day. I’m just trying to stay strong. I’m just trying to stay strong. He was my only child,” Edwards said.

Dallas police are still investigating.
