Morgan’s Wonderland set for silver screen debut
Morgan’s Wonderland, the renowned San Antonio attraction that proudly boasts of being the world’s sole theme park “designed with individuals with special needs in mind,” is set to make its mark on the silver screen with the assistance of Hollywood. This groundbreaking establishment has recently announced its partnership with a prominent production agency, aiming to tell an uplifting tale centered around the Hartman family, who were instrumental in establishing the park. The film seeks to inspire viewers to cultivate kindness, compassion, and understanding in their interactions with others.
Since its inception in 2010, Morgan’s Wonderland has become the first-ever theme park crafted to cater to children of all abilities. This visionary destination has captivated the imaginations of more than 3 million visitors from every U.S. state and over 120 countries worldwide. The forthcoming film, aptly described as a fusion of the enchanting worlds of “Wonka” and “Wonder,” will delve into the story of the Hartman family. It will highlight the challenges they faced while raising their 30-year-old daughter, Morgan, who has special needs. Moreover, the movie will emphasize the emotional toll on caregivers and the pivotal incident that fueled the Hartmans’ unwavering determination to create a space where individuals of all abilities can unite, engage in play, and savor the joys of life side by side.
Gordon Hartman, reflecting on the narrative, expressed, “This will be a love story about Morgan, who has dealt with cognitive and physical special needs since birth and who has become a champion of our mission – inclusion.” He further added, “Morgan doesn’t realize what a profoundly positive impact she’s had on helping children and adults with special needs and disabilities, but she truly is a star in her own right.” The movie endeavors not only to recount the extraordinary tale of a haven free from physical and economic barriers but also to instill in its audience the virtues of kindness, gentleness, and empathy when interacting with others, as emphasized by Maggie Hartman.
Gordon and Maggie have entered into a partnership with SR-48 and esteemed TV producer Sean Robbins, who drew inspiration from the Hartmans’ unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Salvador Paskowitz, the talented writer behind the 2015 drama “The Age of Adaline,” starring Blake Lively, has already penned a script for this heartfelt project. Robbins expressed his heartfelt sentiment, stating, “As a father, my heart melted reading about the inspirational love Gordon and Maggie had for Morgan and the extraordinary lengths they went through to make this dream a reality. It’s a story of hope and compassion and community coming together to make the seemingly impossible possible in a time when that message is needed more than ever.”
Joining the creative team behind this momentous endeavor is Ryan Lewis, whose previous works include “Fat Kid Rules the World,” “5,000 Blankets,” and “Ozark.” While an official release date for this as-yet-untitled film has yet to be disclosed, the search for a director remains ongoing. The world eagerly anticipates the opportunity to witness the heartfelt story of Morgan’s Wonderland and its profound impact on fostering inclusivity and transforming lives.
