As of Tuesday afternoon, more than 71,000 PG&E customers were left without power in the Bay Area as strong winds began to blow across the region.

The most affected customers are in the peninsula, where 32,150 people were left without power, while 16,910 have outages in the South Bay, 7,845 in the East Bay, 7,629 in the North Bay and 7,224 — in San Francisco.

Downed trees and power lines have been reported throughout the region, and people are advised to take extra care when driving, especially in taller vehicles.

The National Weather Service has issued a Bay Area Wind Warning that is valid until 13:00 Wednesday, and high wind warnings have been issued for coastal parts of the region.

PG&E said the risks of outages and broken lines will continue into Wednesday as wind gusts hit 60 mph or more at higher altitudes. Anyone who sees downed power lines should call 911 immediately and never touch the equipment as it may be live and dangerous.

Along with strong winds, snow is expected to fall in the valleys of the region later this week. At altitudes up to 500 feet in the Bay Area on Thursday and Friday, snow could fall, according to the weather service.

There was a major power outage in the East Bay on Sunday.
