Monterey County Public Works Estimates Road Repair Damage

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV): The Monterey County Department of Public Works shared its assessment of storm damage to infrastructure Tuesday afternoon.

FEMA eligible projects currently have a budget of $16.7 million. This includes damage to roads and bridges and utilities.

Officials said these estimates also include debris removal and emergency protective actions taken, which fall under FEMA Special Subcategories A and B, which require a shorter timeframe to complete.

The cost associated with Category A and B projects is $7.3 million.

Permanent road repairs and measures covered by FEMA are in categories C through G. These projects in these categories require repairs to be completed within 18 months. The total amount of this amount is 9.4 million dollars. Public works officials have said that some infrastructure may not be eligible for federal reimbursement due to its poor condition.

The County has stated that further updates to the recovery and repair plans will come when they have them.
