Monterey County has suffered at least $30 million in damage to public infrastructure during recent hurricanes, the county said Sunday in a “very preliminary damage assessment” as part of its official report to the Governor’s Office of Emergency Management.

The estimate includes garbage collection, emergency protective measures, damage to roads, bridges, water facilities, public buildings and equipment. This also includes damage to public utilities, parks and recreational areas.

In addition, initial estimates of damage to the region’s agriculture suffered losses of between $40 million and $50 million.
