‘Mistrust Everywhere’: Goldie Hawn Opposes Cancellation Culture

Actress Goldie Hawn has admitted that she is not a fan of “cancellation culture”.

In an interview with Variety, Hawn, 77, spoke about the negative effects of this phenomenon on those who fell victim to it.

“I think it’s important to pay close attention to people’s behavior and really understand when they’re out of line and be able to deal with that,” she said. “But I am concerned about these areas: suddenly you will not have a job. All of a sudden you can’t date a woman in the business or you’ll get fired.”

Continuing, she said, “They are canceling books—classic books that no one can read. I do not like it. There is distrust everywhere.

Hawn noted that along with the “cancellation of culture” there are “culture wars”.

“Schools are being politicized. But for the greater good of our children? In fact, no one is looking at it,” she added.

According to Merriam-Webster, cancellation culture is “the practice or tendency of mass cancellation as a way of expressing disapproval and exerting social pressure.”

“Now there is some kind of failure. Crashes are good. But there is no imbalance,” Hone told Variety.

She said she hoped to “return to some level of sensitivity and fairness.” She also said that the word “cancellation culture” scares her “more than anything”.

“This is rigid, concretized thinking, which is not good. It has double edges. And who has the right to cancel? She said.

Hawn also talked about how comedians have been hurt by being canceled for what they say.

“The level of sensitivity is so high that comedians are afraid to tell some jokes the way they used to. And it’s a little difficult for comedians; there are things you can’t say, and so on and so forth,” she said.

Although “there are certain points” with which she agrees. Hawn said that “the level of sensitivity is relentless”.
