‘Missing’ hits theaters Thursday

If you feel you can investigate anything online. Well, perhaps you are right. In a chilling new film, one daughter turns to the best tool she has: the internet to find her missing mother.

If you’ve ever seen the Netflix documentary Don’t Mess with the Cats, this film is somewhat similar to Don’t Mess with the Moms. Nia Long and Storm Reid star in a sister detective in which nothing is as it seems.

Storm Reid has lost more than just her keys.

Storm Reid: I hate losing things. This is my biggest bug.”

In the stand-alone sequel to the popular hit In Search, Storm is played by June.

Storm Reed: “The stubborn one who butts her mom and you know she wants to be around her friends.”

But who is also looking for answers after her mother disappears is Nia Long’s character.

Now it all starts innocently enough.

Nia Long: “Grace is a single mom returning to the dating scene.”

We love it for her, so she goes on vacation to Colombia with new boyfriend Kevin, played by Ken Leung. But doesn’t that sound like a red flag to you?

Nia Long: “He seems very nice. Then it doesn’t seem very good. Then he seems very nice again.”

Um, huh? Well, mom is gone and June is stuck in LA, so before it’s too late, the teen gets creative, turning to technology to try and find her.

Storm Reed: “When people watch it, they will know about all the apps she uses and that will make it even more exciting.”

Nia Long: “I don’t even consider myself a tech-savvy person or a nerd in that sense. I wish I had that and I think this movie will make you feel like you can do anything with technology.”

Oh, but there’s one more thing.

Storm Reid: “She’s had a few nasty awakenings along the way.”

The more she digs, the more she finds, and maybe Mom has more to her story.

Nia Long: “Many secrets. Every family has a secret. Our family has a big secret.

We know Jun is an amateur investigator, but what about Nya in real life?

Nia Long: “Oh no. I can find a way out of any situation, dear. I’m from Brooklyn.”

Alex Miranda: “Ha ha, yes.”

Nia Long: It’s street savvy. It has nothing to do with technology.”

And her top tip for digging up good dirt…

Nia Long: “I learned a lot from this movie, like if you know what questions to ask, you can learn anything.”

“Missing” hits theaters on Thursday.
