Michelin-Recognized Heritage BBQ Announced Mid-January Opening For Enormous San Diego Restaurant & Brewery

December 31, 2022San Juan Capistrano’s Michelin-recognized Heritage Craft Barbecue has announced a mid-January opening date for its massive restaurant and craft brewery in San Diego County.

When Chef Daniel Castillo finally opened Heritage Craft Barbecue & Brewing in San Juan Capistrano’s Old Town in August 2020, there was already a line a quarter mile long, with many people waiting since the night before. Castillo had already developed a cult following by hauling his massive 1,000-gallon smoker around Orange County and popping up at area breweries. In its short existence, Heritage Barbecue has garnered a stellar reputation for its Texas-style, slow-smoked barbecue, even being named by Orange County Register as the best restaurant in the county for 2022 and given Bib Gourmand honors by California’s 2021 Michelin Guide.

Heritage Craft Barbecue & Brewing has announced an early 2023 opening date for its new location in the nearly 10,000 square-foot, indoor/outdoor space in Oceanside, CA, that last housed the short-lived Municipal Taco, which shuttered this past June after only a year in business. Expect a menu featuring an array of smoked meats like sausage, pulled pork, chicken, tri tip, char siu pork belly, spare ribs, brisket, and pastrami, as well as sandwiches, sides and cornbread. The company will also brew their own craft beers from the onsite 10 barrel brewing system, with the brewing program helmed by former Pizza Port lead brewer Mike Aubuchon. There will also be a full bar with cocktails and possibly an onsite speakeasy.

Heritage Craft Barbecue & Brewing is anticipated to open on January 15, 2023 at 2002 South Coast Highway in San Diego’s North County city of Oceanside. For more information, visit heritagecraftbbq.com.
