Miami-Dade and Fort Lauderdale Discuss Spring Break Plan

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida. (WSVN) — Fort Lauderdale Police held a press conference Friday to discuss spring break 2023 and discuss rules and regulations. They also shared safety tips for those planning to visit the beautiful beaches.

Spring break started on Friday and will last until April 1st. Contingency plans have already been developed for Fort Lauderdale and Miami-Dade County.

Locals can expect heavy traffic and multiple road closures as thousands head to the beach, clubs and bars.

The police make sure that there is no alcohol on the beach.

City managers in several municipalities have said they are ready to impose curfews if things get too chaotic.

The closing time in Miami-Dade is 5:00 a.m., despite a 2 a.m. last call rule in the fifth ward south.

Closing time in Fort Lauderdale is 2:00 AM.

Fort Lauderdale Police said they would be strict about identification and fake IDs.

“Possession or provision of alcohol to anyone under the age of 21 is obviously strictly prohibited. It will be provided by uniformed and undercover officers, FLPD officers, as well as government agents from the ABT. On the beach of Fort Lauderdale it is forbidden to have any kind of fake ID or show it to an institution, to have open containers of alcohol anywhere outside of any institution,” said Bill Schultz of the Fort Lauderdale police.

A heavy police presence is expected in South Beach, Fort Lauderdale and along the coast of South Florida.

Officials warned locals about pickpockets and asked people to be careful.
