Met Opera concert dedicated to the anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine

The Metropolitan Opera will mark the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine with a concert in memory of the victims of the war.

Met music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin will conduct Mozart’s Requiem and Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. Soprano Golda Schultz, mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo, tenor Dmitry Popov and Ukrainian bass-baritone Vladislav Buyalsky will be soloists at the performance on February 24.

“Mozart’s Requiem is a memory of the innocent victims of war, while Beethoven’s Fifth Piece is a foretaste of the coming victory,” Met CEO Peter Gelb said Friday.

The concert will be broadcast on the radio and will be presented jointly with the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. All tickets cost $50 and go on sale February 1, and the Met is encouraging ticket buyers to donate to help Ukraine.
