McConnell’s detractors right and left haunt Senate leader after his fall: ‘It’s time for him to resign’

After Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, fell on Wednesday night, some on Twitter from both sides of the political division criticized the senator for his policies, attacked him personally and called for him to resign.

McConnell tripped and fell during Wednesday night’s dinner in Washington, D.C. and was taken to a nearby hospital.

While it’s unclear if McConnell sustained any injuries in the fall, some social media users took the opportunity to criticize his policies.

“I think it’s great that Mitch McConnell was able to get the medical care he needed when he needed it,” expert Kelly Scaletta tweeted. “If only women in our country could say the same thing.”

“Mitch McConnell hospitalized after falling at event,” President Biden delegate Victor Shea tweeted. “While we may disagree with him politically, let’s all keep him in our thoughts and prayers and wish him a speedy recovery.”

“I’ve seen many people respond to this with ‘no, they won’t keep him in their thoughts and prayers,'” Shi wrote on Twitter. separate tweet. “I understand that there are strong feelings for him, and believe me, I share them. The two people who reacted strongly to Shea’s tweet were Ryan Gilbert, a digital content producer for Audacy Sports, and Zito Madu, a freelance writer.

“This is Mitch McConnell. If you keep him in your prayers, it’s better to pray that the devil will finally come for him,” Madu tweeted.

Madu wrote in another tweet “People who work in politics are so strange. A politician can destroy the lives of millions, but for now he [is] this is done through legal means/processes, it is not seen as violence or evil. It’s just “politics” and somehow a person is to be judged by meaningless personal anecdotes.”

Former Kentucky Democratic Rep. John Yarmuth noted that McConnell’s fall marked a time “when political divisions are insignificant.”

“I hope Senator McConnell makes a quick and full recovery.” Yarmouth said.

McConnell’s opposition from the right also highlighted the senator’s fall and called for him to resign in comments posted on Twitter.

“Mitch McConnell is not fit to lead the Senate Republican Party. He works against everything Trump Republicans believe, America first. He also continues to lie about January 6th,” wrote Alex Bryusevitz, CEO of consulting firm X Strategies. “I hope he recovers from his injuries because I don’t wish harm on others, but it’s time for him to retire.”

Similarly, former congressional candidate Laura Loomer suggested in a tweet that it was time for McConnell to step down after his fall.

“Mitch McConnell, it’s time to retire! There are too many sick and weak politicians in Washington who waste seats that could be filled by patriots who are physically and intellectually superior to professional politicians who do nothing.” Loomer wrote.

Echoing the thoughts of Bryusevitz and Loomer, Pastor Darrell Scott tweeted, “When you’re so old that you start to fall and need to be hospitalized, it’s time to retire…”

Scott also said he was surprised McConnell “didn’t break his hip” in the fall.
