TRENTON, New Jersey (MERCER). Mayor Reed Gusciora today congratulated Yasi Edwards, Cristal Feliciano and Yasminelli Gonzalez on winning three seats on the expanded Trenton City Council with a decisive victory; in New Jersey Globe and Trentonian announced an At-Large Trenton Council re-election in favor of these three elected Council members. For the first time in history, women will hold six of the seven elected positions on the Trenton City Council.

All constituencies reported Edwards received 1,966 votes, Feliciano received 1,939 votes, and Gonzalez received 1,823 votes. The top three winners were Taiwanda Terry-Wilson (996 votes), Alexander Bethea (879 votes) and Kaja Manuel (764 votes). These figures may change slightly after the count of the remaining mail and pre-ballots.

Mayor W. Reed Gusciora stated, “Over the past four years, the political stalemate has turned into a stalemate. Our administration has always sought compromise and cooperation as we work to revitalize our city’s economy, improve drinking water quality, and keep the streets safe. Yaz, Crystal and Jasi will be incredible advocates for the Trentonians and they will join our four city council members as important partners.”

While it is not clear when the official results of the election will be announced by the Mercer County Clerk and certified by the City of Trenton Clerk, the winners of the Trenton Council At-Large runoff election are expected to be sworn in shortly thereafter. Although Mayor Reed Gusciora and four district representatives currently serving on the Trenton City Council were sworn in on January 1, 2023, they agreed to delay their inauguration until the entire legislature had been elected.

As a result, Mayor Reed Gusciora and seven members of the Trenton City Council will be publicly inaugurated on February 10, 2023 at 6:00 pm at the War Memorial Building. Additional information will be made available to the public when the results of the second round of the At-Large Elections of the Council of Trenton are confirmed.

Mayor W. Reid Gusciora affirmed: “This latest news is welcome, but we can only celebrate victory when our common goals are achieved. However, we are very pleased that all elected members of the city council are committed to the revival of the capital. We are ready and willing to move this city forward.”
