Marijuana and Abortion Decriminalization, Other San Antonio May Election Ballot Initiatives

A spokesman for the city of San Antonio told KENS 5 that he has verified the required number of signatures to put justice initiatives on the May ballot.

SAN ANTONIO. The push for justice reform in San Antonio has reached the number of signatures due on the ballot in May.

San Antonio voters will decide whether to decriminalize abortion, marijuana, strike warrants and chokeholds.

The ACT 4 SA activist group and a spokesman for the city of San Antonio confirmed the information on Wednesday evening.

A city spokesman says that now that the city clerk has verified the signatures, the city council will call an election at its meeting on Thursday.

Activists say the charter will eliminate unnecessary arrests across the city, but the San Antonio Police Officers’ Association previously told KENS 5 that amending the charter “would interfere with effective policing today.”

This is an evolving story.
