Manhattan man pleads guilty to stealing money from two victims of Suffolk County elder fraud

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced the conviction of 31-year-old Ivan A. Inoasuero of Manhattan for his role in a fraud in which two elderly Suffolk County residents received phone calls falsely telling them that their grandchildren were arrested in another jurisdiction and needed to send large sums of money in order to post bail immediately.

“Since I took office last January, I have been shocked and dismayed to see how many scammers are targeting our senior residents to steal money,” District Attorney Tierney said. “If you target senior citizens in Suffolk and fraudulently steal their money, you will be liable and required to return the stolen money.”

According to the investigation and the defendant’s confessions during his plea, Inoasuero posed as a bail bondsman and came to the first victim’s home in Suffolk County in April 2021 to collect $15,000, where the elderly victim believed she was posting bail for her grandson. . Inosuero posed as a bail bondsman again in December 2021 when he met a second victim at MacArthur Airport to collect $20,000, where the victim again believed she was posting bail for her grandson.

On March 1, 2023, Inoasuero pleaded guilty to District Court Judge The Honorable Anthony S. Senft, Jr. of grand larceny in the third degree, a Class D felony. He is scheduled to return to court on April 26, 2023 for sentencing. Inoasuero will be required to make amends to the victims, and if he fails to do so, he faces two and a half to seven years in prison. He is represented by John Halverson, Esq.
