Fire Under Investigation in Manchester Township
MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ – A structure fire broke out on Birmingham Avenue, located in the Pine Lake Park section of Manchester Township, on Friday, August 4, 2023, at approximately 11:47 p.m. The Manchester Township Police and Manchester Volunteer Fire Company promptly responded to the incident. Upon their arrival, they discovered that the home was fully engulfed in flames. Fortunately, the sole resident of the house had managed to exit the premises unharmed before the emergency responders arrived on the scene. To ensure the safety of the surrounding residents, officers immediately shut down the roadway and began evacuating nearby homes. As a result of the fire, a section of Birmingham Avenue experienced power outage for several hours.
In addition to the Manchester Volunteer Fire Company, several other fire companies lent their assistance to combat the blaze. The Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company, Whiting Volunteer Fire Company, Toms River Volunteer Fire Company, and the Silverton Volunteer Fire Company all arrived to provide support.
During the incident, two firefighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to Community Medical Center by Manchester Emergency Medical Services and were later released after receiving medical treatment. The American Red Cross also offered assistance to the owner of the residence affected by the fire.
The Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office and Detective Emmons of the Manchester Township Police Department Detective Bureau are currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. At present, the cause remains unknown.
