Man from Plainsboro Charged With Murder
Plainsboro, New Jersey – In a shocking turn of events, a Plainsboro man has now been charged with Murder in connection with an aggravated assault that took place on August 18, 2023. The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Plainsboro Police Department announced the upgraded charges today.
The incident occurred on August 18 at around 4:14 P.M when authorities responded to a 911 call reporting a break-in and severe injuries. Upon arrival, the Plainsboro Police discovered Herbert Roberts, a 44-year-old man from Plainsboro, unharmed. However, they also found Beverly Roberts, a 73-year-old adult female from Princeton Junction, covered in blood and suffering from severe head and eye injuries. She was immediately airlifted to Newark University Hospital, where she remained in critical condition for a week. Tragically, Beverly Roberts succumbed to her injuries and passed away this morning, on August 25, 2023.
Following an initial investigation led by Detective Justin Kowalczyk of the Plainsboro Police Department and Detective Jose Rosario of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, authorities determined that there was no break-in. Instead, it was revealed that Herbert Roberts, the 44-year-old male, who is a family member of the victim, was the perpetrator. He was arrested at the scene without incident and initially charged with first-degree Attempted Murder. Since his arrest, he has been held in custody.
Today, Herbert Roberts has had his charges upgraded to first-degree Murder, reflecting the tragic outcome of Beverly Roberts’ injuries.
