Man dies after being pushed onto tracks by parolee during brawl at UWS subway station: sources

According to multiple law enforcement sources, the man was pushed onto the tracks at the Upper West Side subway station during a fight with another man, after which he died from his injuries.

Friction between them began when they were on the No. 1 southbound train. Their heated exchange spilled onto the platform on 96th Street around 2 a.m. Friday, law enforcement sources told NBC in New York. When the ensuing quarrel escalated into a fight, one of the men was allegedly pushed onto the railroad tracks.

NYPD officers on the other side of the platform saw a 34-year-old man being pushed onto the tracks and one of the officers ran over to apprehend the 28-year-old suspect.

Police said the victim sustained serious head injuries as a result of the fall. According to police, he was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he died. No train has ever hit a victim.

A 28-year-old man is being questioned by police while possible charges are being clarified. Law enforcement officials said he was paroled in March 2022 for robbery.
