Man charged with assault while intoxicated in Abilene

ABILEN, Texas. Harrison Sims was contacted by the Abilene police at the 2200 block of Highway 83 shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday after reporting a major traffic accident.

According to an APD press release, the defendant was driving a car with a maximum capacity of five people, but there were seven people in the car. While talking to the defendant in close proximity, the officer noticed the smell of alcoholic beverage from Sims’ mouth and face. The defendant admitted that he had consumed alcoholic beverages before driving.

While driving at high speed, the defendant was unable to control the car and crashed into the fence on the passenger side of his car.

Three of the six passengers were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment, one of them seriously injured.

The defendant was charged with assaulting a vehicle while intoxicated in the third degree.
