Man and dog rescued from boat off Sanibel Island

LEE COUNTY, Florida. A man and his dog were rescued Friday morning after a distress call in Lee County.

Captiva Island Fire District Fire Chief Jeff Paul says Captiva Fire and Rescue was called around 6:00 a.m. due to a jet ski distress call.

It happened off the coast of Sanibel Island.

Firefighters say the victim had security measures in place, but had mechanical problems that put him in a potentially dangerous situation.

Chief Pavlul says the man and his dog are doing well and are being monitored, but were brought ashore by rescuers.

A Lee County Sheriff’s Office helicopter helped crews find the ship in rough seas.
