‘Make her sick’: Investigators detail Larry Millet’s dark requests to spell casters

The ninth day of testimony at the Larry Millet preliminary hearing began with a focus on digital evidence related to the case. San Diego District Attorney’s investigator Matthew Grindley continued his testimony the day before, delving into the messages exchanged between Larry and his wife Maya, who has been missing since January 7, 2021. Her body was never found.

Grindley testified that Maya sent messages to Larry in late 2020 demanding that Larry stop installing subliminal messaging devices around her house. Deputy District Attorney Christy Bowels said they were set up with messages aimed at getting her to come to terms with him.

Grindley also told the court about two online accounts Maya used as personal digital diaries. Some posts contained music. They also included references to her anger at the subliminal messages and other mentioned pheromones being sprayed around the house. Grindley also showed photos taken from her iCloud account showing a wall and door that had been damaged and patched up amateurishly. In previous days of testimony, Bowles presented evidence that hinted at the fact that Larry would cause harm during arguments.

Grindley also showed the court a video from Maya’s iCloud account. The video appears to be a secret recording she made during an argument with Larry, where he accuses her of having an affair with a colleague. At some point, Chula Vista, a mother of three, asks her husband: “So it’s enough for you to wish me dead all the time?”

The video, uploaded to iCloud, was apparently recorded by Maya, where the couple discuss an affair they had in 2020.

On Monday, Grindley revealed that Maya and a man named Jamie exchanged sexual, romantic and caring messages with each other via the social media account from September 2020 to January 2021. The investigator also said the couple’s relationship appears to have changed to a more platonic one.

During cross-examination, lawyer Bonita Martinez asked Grindley several technical questions about how the data was obtained. She also asked him about his testimony on Monday when he revealed the history of the search for Larry. This included searching for several types of sedatives. Martinez asked Grindley if he believed Larry poisoned Maya. Previous similar questions were objected to on the grounds that they asked the witness to speculate. But the matter was resolved, and Grindley said, “Yes. In fact, I can’t say that he poisoned her, I see other evidence to support this.”

He mentioned Maya’s messages in which she told Larry that she would no longer take the vitamins he was giving her, saying they made her sleepy. He said she also posted social media posts on her personal account that mentioned it.

Alexis Rivas of NBC 7 talks about the latest pre-trial hearing for Larry Millet.

Martinez asked Grindley if there were any indications that someone feared that Larry would harm Maya, and he replied in the affirmative. He said that Jamie, a colleague with whom she had an affair, expressed this concern several times.

“Another person, from a point of view, could see that in terms of Larry’s behavior, controlling behavior, obsessions, other information about the dramatic conversation that took place on January 5th leading up to her disappearance, Jamie was able to see that her life or at least the environment she was in was no longer safe,” Grindley said.

Another investigator from the district prosecutor’s office spoke next. Peter Villaver is an expert in cell phone communications, especially when it comes to location data where the devices are used. His testimony included several presentations of May’s phone’s latest “data transaction,” which took place just after 1:00 a.m. on January 8, 2021. He also talked about Larry’s phone, which had a 12-hour data gap between 6:35 am and 6:33 pm on January 8, 2021. According to police, this is the time period when Larry told them he took his youngest son to the beach.

Alexis Rivas of NBC 7 talks about the seventh day of testimony.

Villaver said phone records show that Larry’s phone sent text messages to Maya’s phone 44 times between January 9, 2021 and January 30, 2021. His phone never rang her phone during that period of time.

The last witness for the prosecution was also an investigator with the San Diego County District Attorney’s office. James Rhodes sat next to Bowles throughout the 10-day hearing. He touched on a wide range of investigative topics, one of which was CCTV footage taken at a neighbor’s house in the Rancho San Miguel area. He said that on May 19, 2021, this neighbor reported that her windows were shaking in the evening. She said she saw a figure in Millet’s backyard burning something in a large fire. Surveillance video shown in court shows the fire breaking out. Rhodes said that later in October of that year, they removed the items from the backyard fireplace. They found a burnt credit card and some papers, but they said they were unable to determine who it belonged to because it was badly damaged.

Rhodes also testified that during a search of Millet’s home, a computer was found in one of his daughter’s bedrooms. He said it was mostly used by a child, but also contained a folder of files labeled “Daddy’s Files.” Rhodes said that there were videos of sexual acts between Larry and Maya. He said that Larry insisted that only a female detective be allowed to view the videos, which the police agreed to. Rhodes said the computer also contains a search history similar to Larry’s main computer, with searches for subliminal messages.

Testimony continues at a hearing in the case of Larry Millet, accused of the disappearance of his wife Maya.

Rhodes spoke about the efforts of investigators trying to determine where Larry went on January 8, 2021. They say the car’s service records show the mileage of the Lexus family black SUV in early December 2020. They also knew the mileage when the car was impounded. police in mid-January 2021. Rhodes says investigators used cell phone location records, financial transactions and eyewitness testimony to calculate how many miles one drives each day, with an expectation of a break on January 8, 2021. the car was estimated to have driven 444 unaccounted miles that day.

Some of the most impressive evidence came at the end of the day, when Rhoads’ testimony related to witchcraft services that he said Larry purchased between September 2020 and January 2021. He said that Larry sent over a thousand messages to spellcasters through various websites, paying $1,154.05 for more than 70 spell purchases during that time. He also said that Larry ordered a love wang, which is essentially a voodoo doll.

Rhodes testified that messages to spellcasters began with a request for spells to dominate Maya.

Alexis Rivas of NBC 7 explains why the hearing is taking longer than usual, and shares details of Thursday’s action.

“For Mei, it’s all about different kinds of control, submission, being a sex slave, submitting to him, asking her to get hurt so he can take care of her,” Rhodes said.

Bowles showed some of these quotes from his court appearances:

“I would like a powerful love spell to forever bind my wife May Millet to me. For her to love me unconditionally, as I love her.”

“If you can cast a spell to cause bodily harm or maim without killing.”

“Is there a spell you can cast to make May depend on me and weigh her down?”

Rhodes said that Larry’s messages to the spellcasters were getting more and more desperate. He said the desperation was in line with the timeline of Maya deciding to divorce Larry.

A witness testified that murder suspect Larry Millet resorted to witchcraft, according to NBC 7’s Alexis Rivas.

Other messages shown in court contained the following letter:

I’m trying desperately to calm her down.

“Make her sick and keep her really sick.”

“My wife May is adamant about divorce. She says we’re done and she doesn’t try anymore.

Rhodes also shared the messages that Larry sent to the spellcasters days before Maya disappeared. Including:

“Thank you, please don’t leave me. She just tells me she wants to be a co-parent. Not like husband and wife.”

“She’s out of control and pushing, I think she wants me to snap.”

“I’m shaking inside, and I’m ready to break.”

Rhodes said that no messages were sent to the casters on January 8, 2021. He says that when they resumed, Larry asked that Maya’s curses be lifted and Jamie put them on instead. These reports occurred on 9 and 10 January.

Rhodes is expected to complete his testimony on Wednesday. It is unclear whether Judge Duane Moring will immediately issue his ruling on whether there is enough evidence to continue the murder trial.
