Mabel Remains Unclaimed at Shelter for Nearly One Year

Mabel, a three-year-old boxer mix, has captured the hearts of shelter staff and volunteers at the Bulverde Area Humane Society (BAHS) in Bulverde, Texas. Despite her sweet demeanor and friendly nature, Mabel has spent nearly a year at the shelter, eagerly awaiting her chance to find a loving home.

Found as a stray in January of 2023, Mabel was brought to the shelter where she received the necessary care. According to Penny LaFlam, Dog Coordinator at BAHS, it remains a mystery as to why Mabel has been overlooked for so long. “She does really well with other dogs and loves all people and especially kids. We call her ‘wiggle butt’ because she is always happy,” LaFlam said.

Mabel’s affectionate nature makes her a people pleaser. She is well-behaved, walking calmly on a leash and refraining from jumping on new people. Her playful energy makes her an ideal companion for active families. Mabel enjoys going on daily walks and chasing after balls. She would also thrive as a second dog in a home.

Mabel’s health is closely monitored by the shelter. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. Due to her dietary needs, she follows a special diet of Purina HA, which contains hydrolyzed protein to minimize adverse food reactions. Prospective adopters with other dogs in their home must schedule a meet and greet with the shelter.

Despite her irresistible charm, Mabel remains in search of a forever home. To encourage her adoption, Lucy’s Doggy Daycare & Spa will provide the lucky adopter with a complimentary “Glow Up” Day at the Spa, featuring a massage therapy bath and Pawdicure. This gesture aligns with Lucy’s core value of giving back to rescue animals.

Interested individuals can contact BAHS via email at [email protected] to inquire about adopting Mabel. The adoption fee for Mabel is $100, covering the cost of neutering, vaccinations, and flea prevention. The shelter, located at 3563 Kingsnake in Bulverde, is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. More information on adopting pets can be found on their website.

In addition to finding forever homes for animals, BAHS also hosts a monthly Reading to the Cats and Dogs event. Open to all ages, this event allows participants to read aloud to the shelter animals, providing both educational and emotional benefits. Donations to the shelter are always appreciated and can be made through their website.
