Loved ones ‘in shock’ after apparent murder-suicide in Miami Lakes amid investigation

LAKE MIAMI, FL. (WSVN) — Devastated family members continue to grapple with what police have described as an apparent murder-suicide at a Miami Lakes home that killed five people.

7News cameras captured loved ones comforting each other on Friday after the bodies of three men and two women were found on Friday morning near Northwestern 87th Court and 148th Terrace, according to investigators.

Among those who recovered from the tragedy and struggled to find the right words was Rolando Aguilar.

“I’m shocked,” he said in Spanish.

Among the dead were Aguilar’s ex-wife Johanka Aguilar and their 34-year-old son Dhani Aguilar.

While loved ones puzzle over the disturbing find, detectives try to figure out exactly what happened.

Miami-Dade police said four people were shot dead before the shooter turned the gun on himself.

Investigators said they answered a 911 call from a relative, and when they arrived at the house, officers went from room to room to find five people dead.

“They continued to search the house looking for possible suspects or other dangers,” MDPD Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said. “They were able to find a man in one of the last bedrooms who died from a gunshot wound, but it looks like it was self-inflicted.”

In addition to Aguilar’s ex-wife and son, adult siblings and a 58-year-old woman who had just moved to South Florida from Cuba were also found dead.

“So you can only imagine for the family members who were here that it is extremely tragic to find five people who are there lifeless because it could possibly be a murder-suicide,” Zabaleta said.

The people living in the area were also startled to learn of the violent turn of events.

“This is crazy, out of the ordinary,” said a local resident.

“People are going crazy. This is something you don’t do with your family,” said another resident of the area.

The motive for the apparent murder-suicide is unclear.

7News is working to identify the other three victims as police continue their investigation.
