Long Island Nets Honor New York Freedom During Women’s Game Celebration at Nassau Coliseum

The Long Island Nets, an NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, played their annual National Grid-presented Women’s Impact game at the Nassau Coliseum. Throughout the evening, the team honored their WNBA sister team, the New York Liberty, in a variety of ways, including players wearing co-branded Liberty x LI Nets jerseys that resemble the Liberty’s signature seafoam uniforms. The jerseys were sponsored by Webull and National Grid and will be auctioned at a later date, with proceeds going to Pink Cans for Cancer, a non-profit organization supporting breast cancer research and treatment.

“New York Liberty is the epitome of strength and courage,” said Elton Byrd, senior vice president of real estate development at BSE Global, the parent company of the Long Island Nets. “Encouraging girls and women to dream big and strive for excellence is important to our organization and we are proud to be working with Liberty to advance this important cause.”

The first 1,000 fans in attendance received LI Nets and Liberty NBA Jam T-shirts, and Liberty’s Timeless Torches dance crew performed at halftime. Prior to the opening, LI Nets also hosted a panel discussion for ticket holders featuring prominent women in business and sports. Panellists included New York Freedom Legend, Sue Wicks; Founder of Girls Talk Sports TV, Christina Williams; Directed by PeacePlayers Brooklyn, Alyosha Smith; And Brooklyn Nets and Long Island Nets host Ellie Melendez.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate our second consecutive Women’s Impact game with the Long Island Nets as part of the BSE family,” said New York Liberty CEO Keya Clark. “The Liberty is a New York team and Seafoam’s Long Island office is a great example of consistent alliance and recognition. We hope this will become a long-term partnership where we collectively inspire women and support our community partners.”

In order for the local community to be part of the overall Women’s Influence Night celebration, LI Nets partnered with the Jovia Financial and Credit Union to host a financial literacy summit for a group of young girls from Girls Inc. Long Island. The event took place on Feb. 1 and included a chat with the lead team in the arena, Ellie Melendez, and the female LI Nets business staff, followed by a basketball practice at the Nassau Coliseum.
