Long Island girl, 8, left with broken leg after SUV fled scene: police

Long Island police are looking for the driver of a black SUV who hit an 8-year-old girl and left her with a broken leg.

The hit happened around 1:30 p.m. behind a house in the Stream Valley near Dartmouth Street on Sunday, authorities said.

Investigators said the SUV hit the girl while she was playing in the alley behind the house. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for a broken leg.

According to police, the driver continued down the lane and did not stay at the scene.
