Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced Monday that a Long Island woman has been charged with allegedly running her car over a 15-year-old boy twice for apparently targeting her son earlier in same day.

Jennifer Nelson, 35, was charged and stood trial on one count of attempted murder in the second degree, one count of assault in the first degree, one count of reckless endangering in the first degree, and one count of leaving the scene of an accident without warning. messages, resulting in serious bodily injury.

The charge stems from an apparent incident that took place last October.

According to the investigation, on October 7, 2022, Nelson drove her 2020 Honda Passport to a Dunkin’ Donuts diner located across from William Floyd High School to confront a group of students she believes were involved in her son’s robbery earlier that day.

Allegedly, one day in the parking lot, Nelson threatened a group of students, brandishing a knife and a small bat. It was during this incident that one of the teenagers left the parking lot and walked across the street to another business. It was at this point that Nelson got back into her car, pulled out of the Dunkin’ parking lot, and crossed the street at high speed into the Manhattan Bagel parking lot, driving right into the teenager who was standing in the parking lot. according to the district attorney.

The teen fell to the ground after being hit, at which point Nelson allegedly drove over him, jumped onto the curb, turned around and drove over him again before fleeing the scene.

The DA’s office says Nelson traded in her 2020 Honda Passport for a newer model later that evening, even though her lease had not yet expired.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the teenager has multiple fractures of the pelvic bones, six fractures of the ribs, a lung puncture, as well as bruises and abrasions.

Nelson is due back in court on March 21.

“This adult defendant allegedly thought she could take justice into her own hands, and in the process tried to kill a 15-year-old,” Tierney said. “This defendant’s incredibly misguided attempt to avenge the alleged persecution of her own child is no excuse. Citizens cannot take the law into their own hands, and instead must work with law enforcement and my office to seek justice in every case.”

Nelson’s attorney did not immediately respond to NBC 4 New York’s request for comment.
