Levin Kava: Partial demolition of waste-to-energy plant in Doral likely to help crews put out fire

DORAL, Florida. (WSVN) — As the fire at a waste-to-energy plant in Doral continues, city officials said they have found a possible solution.

Part of the roof and some walls collapsed at the Covanta Energy Plant, located at 6990 NW 97th Ave., as smoke continues to rise into the sky for the fourth consecutive day.

Late Thursday night, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said they have a plan to help firefighters deal with the fire.

“Our crews have begun partial demolition of this facility, which allows more air to enter the structure and gives our firefighters more options to fight the fire,” she said.

The mayor added that all tests in the air around the station were clean, but residents living nearby should stay at home for now.

Debris inside the plant caught fire on Sunday, causing a fire.
