Leander brothers struggle financially as they secure Junior Olympics qualification.

LEANDER, Texas – A pair of talented brothers from Leander are getting ready to represent Central Texas in the Junior Olympics, set to take place in Des Moines, Iowa. However, their journey to the competition is not without obstacles.

To reach the desired endpoint of any race, it demands unwavering commitment and dedication. “These kids put in an exceptional level of effort every single day,” stated Tanya Jarrett McKenzie, mother, and coach of the brothers.

Nonetheless, beyond their sheer determination lies a pressing financial need. “As they grow older, the strain on both myself and my husband is increasing,” McKenzie explained. “This year, we are exploring various ways to support them.”

Coach Tanya, the mother of Jahmai and Maik, has made the decision to send her two sons to the esteemed Junior Olympics on July 29th. “Their accomplishments are not solely a result of their genetic makeup. Every step we take here, we do what we are supposed to and go the extra mile. This makes me immensely proud,” beamed McKenzie.

These two siblings are indeed a force to be reckoned with, demonstrating their prowess in various events, including the pentathlon and hurdles. “I have been closely following in my mother’s footsteps, as she was a hurdles athlete herself. I have found immense joy in this discipline,” shared Jahmai McKenzie.

However, standing in their way is a financial gap of approximately $5,000, which separates them from the athletic showcase in Iowa. “We have spent countless hours traveling for training sessions,” revealed Jahmai McKenzie, emphasizing their unwavering dedication. “It would be a profound disappointment if we are unable to attend.”

The family urgently seeks assistance to cover airfare, meals, and lodging expenses. Without this support, their journey may never even begin. “Without help, we would not only shatter their dreams but also their reality. We would obliterate what they have tirelessly worked for throughout the year. These boys have been training since last October, and this competition is the pinnacle for any young athlete,” expressed Tanya Jarrett McKenzie.
