La Vernia ISD endorses four-day study week

In a Facebook post, the district said the three-year pilot program will begin in the 2023-2024 school year.

LA VERNIA, Texas. Following a nationwide trend, the La Vernia ISD School Board approved a four-day school week.

In a Facebook post, the district said the three-year pilot program will begin in the 2023-2024 school year. The district explained the next steps, which include a meeting of the District Education Improvement Council (DEEC) to discuss calendar options.

Once this happens, LVISD staff will vote on the calendar, as they do annually, from the DEEC options. This calendar will be submitted for Board approval on March 6th.

The area is not the first in Texas to move in this direction.

Harlandale Independent School District leaders are weighing the benefits of cutting the school week to four days.

In North Texas, the Anna Independent School District (AISD) school board announced in January that it had approved a transition to a four-day school structure for 2023-24.
