La Ola moves restaurant from shipping containers to trailers in Fort Myers Beach.

Fort Myers Beach, Florida. The restaurant, devastated by Hurricane Ian, will move around to avoid the flood zone and remain open for business.

La Ola Surfside Restaurant used shipping containers, but was credited by the Fort Myers Beach government for operating in the FEMA flood zone.

Due to FEMA’s flood zone regulations, the restaurant was mentioned because of the shipping containers they use as a makeshift building in Times Square. These rules state that containers must be mobile in case of a storm that requires them to be evacuated.

La Ola owner Tom Houghton decided to place the shipping containers on trailers so they were mobile and would not close.

Tuesday cranes are used to lift shipping containers onto trailers. Deck stairs and railing systems will be built to allow customers and employees to access containers.

A Fort Myers Beach building inspector will inspect a temporary restaurant that hopes to open Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
