Kyrie Irving helps the Dallas Mavericks beat the Utah Jazz

Kyrie Irving scored a hat-trick and scored 17 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter, and Luka Doncic added 29 points as the Dallas Mavericks beat the Utah Jazz 120-116 narrowly on Tuesday night.

Utah were trailing 118–115 with 3.7 seconds to play when Talen Horton-Tucker was fouled and sent to the line for two shots. After sinking first, a deliberate error drove it straight into the backboard and missed the rim, causing Dallas to take possession of the ball.

Irving’s three-pointer from right field gave Dallas a 112–108 lead with 2:33 to play and was part of an 8–0 streak that gave the Mavericks a 115–108 lead.

Tim Hardaway Jr. had 24 points off the bench, including 7 of 9 shots from behind the arc, as Dallas finished 3-3 in a record six home games.

Lauri Markkanen returned to the roster after missing the game with a lower back strain and scored 33 points to lead the Jazz. Horton-Tucker added 21 points.

The Jazz lost for the fourth straight time and fell to a season-high four games under .500. They played without two starting players: shooting guard Jordan Clarkson (dislocated finger) and center Walker Kessler (non-COVID illness).

The Jazz hit six of their first eight shots to take a 14–6 lead with four minutes before Hardaway scored 10 straight points for Dallas to help the Mavericks take a 34–31 lead into fourth place.

Hardaway made his first four three-point shots. Seconds after he made his fifth on his sixth try to give the Mavericks a 51–37 lead, Hardaway backed off four minutes into the second period and his left foot landed on the foot of jazz coach Will Hardy right in the Utah coaching area. Hardaway went down and was helped to the bench and returned early to the game.
