Jupiter police looking for car thief in storm sewer

JUPITER, Florida. Jupiter police are searching a storm drain on Monday for a man they believe may have been robbing cars in two different neighborhoods earlier in the morning.

Police said they believe the man is now hiding in a sewer under Indianatown Road.

At the scene, a WPTV film crew counted about a dozen patrol cars and also heard officers ordering everyone in the sewers to come out with their hands up.

WPTV also saw officers using what appeared to be aquatic drones to try and see where a person was.

Jupiter police officer Christine Reitler said it all started around 5am on Monday. Police believe the man robbed cars around Pine Gardens and Woodland Estates.

At some point, police believe the man fled into a storm sewer, and the police have been trying to take him into custody ever since.

Jennifer Gomez works next door and was shocked to see how it all unfolded.

“I have never seen anything like it before. This is madness. And working right here, like I said, is crazy. I mean, is it safe for us to be here at this moment? “, Gomez said.

Jupiter police said they don’t know if the man is armed or could be dangerous, and they are still working with preliminary information.
