Jewel thieves attack elderly people in Marina

MARINA, California. (KION-TV) – Police said there have been several cases of thieves attacking elderly people in Marina in the past few weeks and two in the past three days.

The last one happened on Friday at 10:09 in the area of ​​Cardoza Avenue and the Dolphin Circle. The police were dispatched on reports of an armed robbery.

The elderly woman was approached by a man and a woman driving a dark, possibly black, pickup truck. The woman got out of the truck and began to question the victim about her nationality.

The suspect said she was of Pakistani descent, told the victim it was her birthday and asked for a hug, police said. Then they hugged her tightly.

The suspected man in the car asked the victim if she wanted cash and a ring, showing both, and the elderly victim refused. The suspected woman returned to the car and they drove away.

The victim later realized that her necklace had been stolen.

The suspects were described as a man and a woman, possibly of Middle Eastern origin, speaking English with a thick accent. The woman was also wearing traditional Pakistani clothing, including a pink headdress, police said.

A similar incident took place in the 3100 Kona Circle at 6:41 p.m. Tuesday, according to police. A man and a woman in a white BMW drove up to an elderly woman.

The woman got out of the car and told the victim that she was new in the area. The woman then puts the necklace on the victim and returns to the car, police said. Victim noticed shortly after her real necklace was stolen.

The suspects in this case may have been of Middle Eastern origin. The man was clean-shaven and about 40 years old. According to Marina police, the woman suspect had a strong accent and was between 30 and 35 years old.

Marina Police are asking the community to be vigilant and report any incidents that appear similar to those described above.
