JetBlue flight crashes into plane at John F. Kennedy Airport, 2nd unusual incident in days

A JetBlue flight en route from New York to Puerto Rico collided with another aircraft near the gate on Wednesday. This is the second time in a few days that two planes have experienced an unusual incident at John F. Kennedy Airport.

Flight 1603 “made light contact with a parked, unoccupied aircraft while being towed,” a JetBlue spokesperson said in a statement. The plane returned to the gate; no injuries were reported.

The FAA confirmed that the JetBlue aircraft collided with the tail of another JetBlue aircraft, both Airbus A320s. The agency said it would conduct an investigation into the incident, and the airline said both aircraft would be taken out of service.

Wednesday’s incident follows an incident at JFK last Friday in which two planes nearly collided.

In this case, a Delta Air Lines Boeing 737 stopped taking off when an American Airlines flight overran the runway. The FAA subsequently stated that the planes flew about 1,000 feet apart.

The NTSB is also investigating this incident.
