Japan’s Uncle Tetsu Japanese Cheesecake To Open First San Diego Location

Nearly 40-year-old Japanese dessert chain Uncle Tetsu is bringing its famed fluffy cheesecakes to San Diego.
Uncle Tetsu Japanese Cheesecake was founded in 1985 in Hakata, Japan by Tetsushi Mizokami. Since its inception, fluffy, cloud-like Japanese cheesecakes have become a global phenomenon. The popular dessert combines the richness of American cheesecakes with the lightness of French soufflés. Uncle Tetsu now has nearly 100 locations around Japan, Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Taiwan, Australia, Canada, and the United States.

The first San Diego branch of Uncle Tetsu is opening in the plaza that houses Jasmine Seafood and Dumpling Inn off Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa. Expect a menu of desserts centered around airy cheesecake served warm from the oven, as well as cheesecake biscotti and cheesecake tarts. Flavors include original, strawberry, chocolate, matcha, Oreo and ube, as well as Burnt Basque cheesecake varieties, which have a caramelized exterior that forms a natural crust.
