Peaches Patties, a Jamaican diaspora cuisine known for its fragrant and tangy pastries, opens a permanent display at San Francisco’s Ferry Building Marketplace on Friday, January 20th.

Named after the Kingston-born mother of chef and owner Shani Jones, whose friends and family called Peaches, the catering company-turned-restaurant is a tribute to the Creole stew and grilled meats Jones enjoyed as a child. According to The Chronicle, her father was from New Orleans, where gumbo is the main dish.

At the new Ferry Building, Jones plans to offer fried chicken with rice, vegetables and fried sweet bananas, vegan stewed black beans and chickpeas with rice and salad, and, of course, her signature Jamaican patties — customers can choose between spicy beef and chicken curry. or spinach and lentils. All this can be washed down with a traditional Caribbean drink – the menu includes hibiscus tea and ginger beer.

Jones said she is thrilled to open her stone-built restaurant across from the famous Embarcadero food hall. “Peaches Patties will be the first Jamaican pie shop and eatery to grace the Ferry building,” she wrote in a press release.
