Jamaica-60 comes to The Broward Center with Steve Higgins’ “Love & Nostalgia”

FT LAUDERDALE– Fresh from a performance in Melbourne, Australia, Steve Higgins Productions is presenting Love & Nostalgia at the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Performing Arts Center on Saturday, March 18th at 7pm.

Jamaica’s 60th Anniversary Celebrationth In honor of the anniversary of an independent nation, the show is held at the Broward Center under the auspices of the Consul General of Jamaica in the Southeast United States, Mr. Oliver Myre, who began a world tour in April 2022, along with Mayor Judy Paul of Davie.

It is presented with the support of the Broward Center Arts Access Program, which helps community organizations present art and cultural performances at the Broward Center. The program provides technical assistance and marketing support to arts organizations in South Florida, helping them develop and grow their audiences.

“Viewers will experience an unforgettable and exciting evening of first-class Jamaican entertainment from Steve Higgins and his team,” said Consul General Oliver Mair, “as our cultural ambassadors continue to make us proud to showcase the Jamaican spirit in music and song. ”

Diamond Anniversary Tour “Love and Nostalgia”

The Diamond Jubilee Tour began in April 2022 in Houston, Texas and featured singers Dahlia Winter, April Marr and Steve Higgins. Higgins will present Jamaican folk music presented in its historical context (along with the stories behind them), beloved Jamaican ska, love rock and reggae, as well as other exciting genres of music, from jazz to ballads and Broadway.

This year, sensation Matthew Higgins and creative dancer Amaya Lewis return to the Broward Center stage. Newcomers include soprano Amalia Rosales and dancer Chevanese Williams, who will make their debut in this production.

What can viewers expect?

“Visitors from Jamaica who have not visited their homeland for a long time will enjoy our rich rhythmic and exciting Jamaican folk music, as well as colorful stories and stories that will evoke a lot of nostalgia and warmth,” said Steve Higgins. “They will want to sing along, dance and remember the days long gone when they grew up on this beautiful exotic island. During past performances, when some familiar folk songs began, the audience “bursted” into spontaneous enthusiastic dancing and energetic children’s jumps, seething with excitement and energetic rejection! Of course, fans and friends who are not born in Jamaica will learn more about Jamaica and everyone can join in on the fun!”

Tour Jamaica-60, sponsored by the Jamaica Tourism Boardis intended to tell the history of Jamaica through music and a way to pass on the culture to the descendants of the Jamaicans.

“Our events attract a diverse audience of all nationalities, including Caribbean citizens, Americans, Britons, culture lovers, academics and music lovers,” said Higgins. “We embrace children of all backgrounds and share our culture. This Legacy Tour is an educational exposure of Jamaican folk music,” he added. “It represents every aspect of Jamaican life, including love, labrash, spirituality, slavery and the celebration of life.”

The songs are native to Jamaica and come from a mixture of influences – African, British, Spanish, Maroons and native Jamaican, Taíno. Songs like “Day-O”, “Manuel Road”, “Dis Long Time Gal”, “Colon Man” and “Fan Mi Soldier Man” evoke feelings of warmth and nostalgia.

Love and Nostalgia Tickets

Tickets range from $42.80 to $53.50 with $85.60 VIP seats including premium seats and CD. Part of the proceeds will go to the Partners for Youth Foundation and the STEP Center for Children with Multiple Disabilities.
