Jahin Stephenson charged with injuring an innocent bystander during a 2020 New York City shooting

Authorities said Thursday a man was charged with attempted murder in a shooting that injured two people, including an innocent bystander, back in 2020 in Queens.

Jahin Stephenson, 21, was arrested Wednesday morning after being involved in the evening shooting on June 15, 2020, in which a 31-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman were injured, police said.

Stevenson was charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of assault and attempted assault. Authorities said he also faces charges of criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a loaded firearm, and reckless endangerment.

The police regarded the incident as retaliation for previous shootouts.

At the time, police said three people had fired several shots at the NYCHA Woodside Houses at Broadway and 51st Street.

The man was stabbed in the back and the woman, who was described as an innocent bystander, was hit in the back, police said at the time. Both were hospitalized in a stable condition.

The NYPD released a picture of the three suspects two days after the shooting.

No other arrests were made in the case.
