Issued a warning for Baby Trend strollers after the death of a child

Officials have said that a child’s head or neck can get stuck in some Baby Trend Sit N’ Stand strollers. One death has been reported.

WASHINGTON. A 14-month-old baby died and another was injured when they were trapped in Baby Trend strollers, according to a new consumer warning issued by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The CPSC stated that a child’s head or neck could be pinched between the swivel front canopy and the armrest or seatback of the Baby Trend Sit N’ Stand Double and Ultra strollers that have model numbers beginning with “SS76” or “SS66”.

According to the CPSC, this can happen when another child climbs into the stroller or when the child in the front seat is not securely fastened.

A 14-month-old baby who was not in a stroller died after his neck got stuck in the space between the front of the lamp tube and the armrest, according to the warning. In another incident, a 17-month-old child, who was partially tied up, was caught between the back of a light and the back of a front seat, resulting in neck bruises.

Wheelchairs are not recalled. Consumers are strongly advised to remove the canopy and store it separately when not in use, prevent children from playing in strollers, and always secure children fully with the five-point harness when using them.

Baby Trend’s statement on its website states that strollers are “completely safe when used as intended and in accordance with the company’s instruction manual.” It described the child’s death as a “tragic and extremely rare accident” that could have been avoided had the child not played in the stroller.
