Is it legal to drive in a trailer in Florida?

ORLANDO, Florida. – News 6 road safety expert Paratrooper Steve Montero answers questions from viewers about the rules of the road every week, helping Orlandans become better drivers through better education.

Soldier Steve was asked, “Are you allowed to ride in a trailer? Just saw a landscape trailer with someone in it!”

He said that for “obvious reasons” no one should ride anything towed by another vehicle.

“For reasons such as the lack of safety equipment or the high likelihood that something will go wrong, passengers are not allowed to ride anything towed by another vehicle,” he said.

Trooper Steve said, however, that Florida has a law that allows a passenger to be in a trailer that is physically attached to the bed of a pickup truck.

“It would be one that was fully attached, not chained, towed, or some other combination of both,” he said.
