Is Gov. Ron DeSantis creating a roadmap for the presidential campaign?

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida. When Gov. Ron DeSantis Answered Questions Wednesday press conference in West Palm Beach it was a chance to talk again about the issues he was dealing with.

“We will be the first state in this United States to eliminate DEI at public universities,” DeSantis said, referring to diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

Some say statements like these are drawing Republicans across the country and are part of DeSantis’ roadmap for the presidential campaign.

Adam Goodman explains why Gov. Ron DeSantis is using an effective strategy as there are rumors that he will run for the White House.

“The best thing a governor can do is what he does every day,” said Republican media strategist Adam Goodman. “He continues to get media attention and release the press every day, which is something you don’t get by saying, ‘I’m here and I’m running away.’

However, Democrats believe DeSantis is winning support by creating divisional issues such as removing critical racial theory in schools, moving migrants to other states, and addressing LGBTQ issues.

“I think the governor has found ways to divide rather than unite,” said Sophia Nelson, president of the Caribbean American Democratic Club of Palm Beach County. “The attack is directed at all of us. It’s not a black thing. This is not an LGBTQ matter. This is an attack on Americanism. We are all Americans.”

The governor did not say whether he would run for president, preferring to focus on the upcoming legislative session in Tallahassee.

“I think there is concern among Democrats about the emergence of DeSantis,” said Goodman, who expects the Florida governor to announce his candidacy for president later this year.

Nelson agreed and said Democrats should be ready for a DeSantis campaign.

“He found what works and our party must find what works for us,” she said.
