In West Palm Beach, Florida, the holiday season is in full swing, and with it comes the hustle and bustle of travel. WPTV reporter Victor Jorges found himself at Palm Beach International Airport on Sunday morning, engaging in conversations with travelers and delving into their experiences amidst the holiday travel frenzy.
As the clock struck 4:13 PM on December 22, 2023, a myriad of individuals expressed their thoughts on the bustling airport atmosphere. Despite the high volume of people, many travelers acknowledged that things were surprisingly running smoothly. Sammy Dratch, who had journeyed to South Florida to visit her family, confessed that she had anticipated chaotic lines and long waits. However, much to her delight, the reality was quite the opposite. “We got to the airport pretty early. We were expecting it to be crazy lines, a lot of waiting, pretty hectic … but it wasn’t like that at all,” she divulged. “It was fairly calm.”
Another traveler, Allison Aquilino from New Jersey, recounted her experience of waking up at the ungodly hour of 3 a.m. to ensure she had ample time to navigate the intricacies of her journey. “It was good, I did have to wake up at 3 a.m. to get to the airport, but other than that it wasn’t too bad,” she shared. “I have precheck, everyone should get that, especially for the holidays.” Aquilino’s sentiment resonated with millions of individuals who have passed through security checkpoints this week, as reported by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
While the TSA has not yet released the data for Christmas Eve travel, they did disclose that a staggering 2,638,639 individuals took to the skies on December 21 alone. These numbers highlight the magnitude of the holiday travel season and the importance of efficient security measures. As people continue to journey to their desired destinations, it is crucial for travelers to remain vigilant and take advantage of programs like precheck to streamline their airport experiences.
As the year draws to a close, airports across the nation are bracing themselves for the last-minute rush of holiday travelers. While the Palm Beach International Airport has thus far managed to maintain a sense of order amidst the chaos, it is essential for both airport authorities and travelers alike to remain adaptable and patient. The holiday season is indeed a wonderful time, but it is also a time when travel can be particularly demanding. By heeding the advice of seasoned travelers and taking advantage of technological advancements like precheck, individuals can ensure a smoother and more enjoyable holiday travel experience.
