Immokali High School graduate among Michigan State University shooting victims

COLLIER COUNTY, Florida. Fox 4 has confirmed that one of the victims shot dead at Michigan State University on Monday is from southwestern Florida.

Sister Guadalupe Huapilla-Pérez tells us that she is one of five people who were badly injured.

Now she is in the hospital.

Huapilla-Perez is on the Collier County Schools website for the 2020 start of Immokali High School.

Her sister, Selena Huapilla-Perez, says Guadalupe is now a freshman at Michigan State University, majoring in hospitality.

On Monday evening, a 43-year-old man entered the Moscow State University campus and opened fire in two places, killing three students and injuring five others, including Huapilla-Perez, investigators said.

Fox 4’s Nadine Yanes spoke to Ed Tillet, MSU’s director of multicultural business, and said she knows Guadalupe Huapilla-Pérez and he and the Spartan family are praying that she survives.

We reached out to her family and created a gofundme page dedicated to her recovery and family travel expenses.

Her sister writes on the page, doctors tell us that even if her condition improves, the process of full recovery will take months of care and rehabilitation.

On Wednesday, Immokalee Senior Director Clara Calderon shared the following message with staff.

Staff,

We have a large number of migrant students who attend Michigan State University on the CAMP program. Guadalupe “Lupita” Huapilla is an IHS Class 2020 graduate.

Yesterday I was able to talk to her sister and was informed that Lupita had several surgeries and is currently in a stable condition. Please keep her and her family in your prayers.
