An Italian restaurant, Il Posto, and a Neapolitan pizzeria will soon take over the long-standing Eclipse chocolate company in San Diego’s South Park.

Will Gastwiller founded Eclipse Chocolate in 2004 after receiving a master’s degree in sculpture from San Diego State University. In 2007, he opened a dessert cafe on El Cajon Boulevard, and in 2013 he moved his company to South Park, increasing production by 400 percent and creating a dining room concept with 70 chairs. In early 2017, Gustwiller won a special episode of “Guy’s Chocolate Games” of Guy Fieri’s popular Food Network competition. Guy’s grocery games.

Last September, Gastwiller announced a desire to free up his South Park space to operate Eclipse Chocolate primarily online and as pop-ups at local businesses and farmers’ markets. Eclipse Chocolate will continue to operate in space until new operators take over. At this time, Eclipse Chocolate will move to online business and pop-up.

Meaning “place” in Italian, Il Posto is the product of native Italians Maurizio Carbone, Fabio Montagna and Chef Antonio Pappagallo, who also run the Maurizio Trattoria Italiana in the heart of Encinitas. Il Posto will offer a menu of homemade fresh pasta and real Neapolitan style pizza, as well as a large selection of main courses, appetizers and desserts. The restaurant will also have a selection of wines and beers, as well as a separate event room.

Il Posto is expected to open this summer at 2145 Fern Street in San Diego’s South Park neighborhood.
