Ice storm in Texas: Austin goalie among those left without electricity on Saturday

A power outage in central Texas due to an ice storm this week is affecting everyone, even Austin FC goaltender Brad Stuver.

stuver took to twitter on saturday night to report that it was out of power for just over three days, but according to the Austin Energy outage map, the first report was received on Saturday.

“No power for 76 hours but @austinenergy says the first outage was reported 2 hours ago… so that’s frustrating,” Stuver tweeted. “I rejoice for all those who are being restored. I hope those who still don’t have it all right!”

As of 19:42 Feb. 4, 54,692 customers are still without power thanks to 1,634 active outages, according to Austin Energy’s outage map. Outages have been reported as far north as SH 45 near Cedar Park, south as Creedmoor, west as Hills and Lakeway, and east as Webberville.

Austin Energy said Saturday night that additional contractors have arrived to help line workers from Austin Energy and nearby utilities, including New Braunfels Utilities, CenterPoint Energy and Renegade, restore power. The utility is warning residents that it could take several days to restore power to one circuit, due to equipment being in hard-to-reach areas, such as a green zone, or being buried in very heavy debris.
