I Tried Serendipity3 Valentine’s Day Iced Hot Chocolate for $250,000 – That’s Why It’s So Expensive

This is one of the Valentine’s Day dates you might want to split the bill for.

Famed New York restaurant Serendipity3 has sold nearly 30 million cups of its Frrrozen hot chocolate since it opened in 1954, but its latest take on the classic menu item is the most expensive.

For one day only, the restaurant offers a $250,000 hot chocolate version served in a crystal-covered glass and garnished with edible “diamond” glitter and 23-carat gold-plated chocolate chips.

But a chilled dessert that can be drunk through a solid golden straw or eaten with a golden spoon is not the star of the show. Instead, you are really paying for a one-of-a-kind ring that will come with your drink.

CNBC Make It stopped by to sample the improved hot chocolate and get a firsthand look at Serendipity3 chef Joe Calderon’s pricey spread.

The 18k white gold bypass ring was created by jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz and features a heart-shaped pink diamond and a pear-shaped blue diamond and is worth over a quarter of a million dollars.

The ring box is delivered in a chocolate sphere filled with edible caramel diamonds and pearls to be smashed at the table.

The jewel-encrusted treat will only be available on Valentine’s Day at Serendipity3 in New York City. The ring will hang in the restaurant until a buyer appears.
