Hundreds of people mourn the murdered NYPD cop Adid Fayaz at the Brooklyn mosque

Hundreds of New York’s finest people lined up outside the Brooklyn Mosque on Thursday morning to pay their respects to slain NYPD cop Adid Fayaz, who was shot and killed during a failed robbery attempt in East New York.

Uniformed officers lined Coney Island Avenue at least 20 blocks from Mackie Masjid Muslim Center as grieving relatives and NYPD leadership mourned him, along with Fayaza Borough Park police officers inside.

“All my brothers in blue are here, we don’t leave and we don’t leave anyone,” NYPD cop Kenneth Harrison, a fellow Muslim, said outside the mosque. “We are all one team. All these officers you see here have come to pay their respects to our shield-bearing brother.”

Others stood to offer their condolences and mourn the Big Apple gunfight.

“We show respect to the family,” said a grieving Katherine Lee, whose son, NYPD officer Kevin Lee, was shot dead in the line of duty in Manhattan in 2006.

“No one knows how they get through,” Lee said. “This is not the first. This is probably the hundredth officer we came to support. It’s getting too much.

“Laws have to change,” she said. “And that’s why we’re here for families. We just hug them. A hug goes a long way.”

Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell are expected to be among the dignitaries scheduled to speak at Fayaz’s funeral Thursday afternoon.

Fayaz, 26, a five-year NYPD veteran and married father of two, was shot in the head while relaxing Saturday after responding to a Facebook Marketplace ad to buy a Honda Odyssey but was ambushed.

Randy Jones, a 38-year-old career criminal, was charged with first-degree murder on Wednesday after being tracked down at a Rockland County hotel.

Brooklyn prosecutors said Jones fled the scene in a black BMW SUV and was a fugitive for two days before being taken into custody handcuffed by Fayaz himself.

The bullet hole in the getaway car was covered with tape, and the mobile phone used to set up the fake car sale was thrown by Jones in an attempt to throw cops off his trail, prosecutors said in court on Wednesday.

Jones was ordered to be held without bail at the time of his arraignment, and more than 100 stone-faced NYPD officers watched him in solidarity at Brooklyn Criminal Court.

Fayaz and his brother-in-law met with Jones in East New York just before 7:00 pm on Saturday to buy a Honda, hiding $24,000 in cash in the car to complete the purchase.

But Jones allegedly asked the couple if they had a gun and grabbed Fayaz at the castle when they said they didn’t, then opened fire and mortally wounded the young policeman.

Fayaza’s brother-in-law grabbed the policeman’s gun and returned fire as Jones fled.

Fayaz remained on life support at Brookdale Hospital until he was pronounced dead on Tuesday.

On Thursday outside the Brooklyn mosque, mourners lined up to write a final message to the fallen police officer on the back of his portrait, which will be given to his parents as part of the department’s tradition.

“I have been doing this for 17 years for families because they are sacrificing for us,” said artist Kenny Altidore, who painted the portrait. “They’re giving away their loved ones who serve and protect the city, and I’m trying to repay with a small token of my appreciation.”

Harrison, a fellow Muslim police officer, said the mourners would give the slain officer his namaz, or prayer, “because he can’t do his.

“We also pray for the man who killed him and ask Allah for forgiveness for taking away one of his believers,” he said. “That’s why we’re here today.

“They will have midday prayer, jur, and then we will take him to the cemetery and bury his body in the ground before sunset,” Harrison said. “That’s the law.”

Fayaz is to be buried at Pinelon Memorial Park in Farmingdale.
